From 2027

Net metering in the Netherlands ends on 1 January 2027

Until the end of 2026, Dutch households can still offset the solar power they export against what they use. After that, exported power only earns a feed-in payment from the supplier, who may also charge feed-in costs. Power you use yourself, straight away, stays free of energy tax.

1

Exported power earns less

Until 2030 the feed-in payment must be at least half of the bare supply price, without taxes. After that there is no minimum.

2

Using it yourself is worth the most

Every kWh you use yourself is a kWh you don't buy: you save the full price, energy tax included.

3

ComfortWatt does it automatically

Your surplus goes to your heaters, aircons or boiler before it reaches the grid – and your home battery always comes first.

Plug & play

From box to warm home in ten minutes

No installer needed. You use a standard Raspberry Pi 4; we supply the aluminium case, the ready-made SD card and your personal setup card.

  1. 1

Pi into the case, card in

Put the Raspberry Pi into the aluminium case and insert the SD card. The case keeps the Pi cool.

  2. 2

    Power in, cable or Wi-Fi

A network cable to your router if you have one; if not, you put the hub on your Wi-Fi with your phone. The first start takes about 5 minutes.

  3. 3

    Scan the QR code

With your phone. Choose a password and answer: do you have solar panels?

  4. 4

    Connect meter and heaters

The P1 meter is found automatically. Your heaters come in by logging in once with your Smart Life app.

No installer needed

Other systems need an installer and usually control one aircon over infrared. ComfortWatt you install yourself, and it runs several devices at once: Wi-Fi heaters and aircons directly, and aircons with only a remote through an IR blaster.

What's in it for you?

Fill in your own situation. We calculate for 2027, when net metering has ended, using average Dutch solar, heating and cooling profiles.

Estimated saving per year from 2027

€0

  • 0 kWh of solar power to your heaters instead of the grid
  • 0 kWh of solar power to your aircon for cooling
  • 0 kWh moved to hours with cheap power

Basic · €3.99 per month€0
Complete · €6.99 per month€0

Net metering ends on 1 January 2027. For exported power you then only get a feed-in compensation (until 2030 at least half the bare supply price), and many suppliers charge export fees. Every kWh you use yourself then earns the difference. An estimate, not a guarantee.

Why ComfortWatt

Smarter than a timer, simpler than an installer

Reacts within seconds

Reads your smart meter every five seconds and steps heaters up or down by power setting. When a cloud passes, it steps back at once.

Aircons with a remote too

ComfortWatt controls Wi-Fi heaters and aircons directly. Does your aircon or heater only have a remote? With a Tuya IR blaster costing a few tens of euros, ComfortWatt learns its buttons and controls it too. With priorities per room.

Works with your home battery

Battery first, heating first, or battery to a set charge. The battery never empties itself into a heater.

Never too warm, never too cold

When heating, ComfortWatt stops at your maximum temperature; when cooling, at your minimum. Wi-Fi heaters also get that limit on their own thermostat. You can always use them by hand.

Everything stays at home

Your heaters are controlled locally and your energy data stays on your own hub. No cloud needed to work.

ComfortWatt kit

€59.99 one-off

Aluminium case that keeps the Pi cool, ready-made SD card and personal setup card. You use your own Raspberry Pi 4 with the official power supply.

No Raspberry Pi yet? Choose a Raspberry Pi 4 with 1 GB: that's plenty for ComfortWatt and the cheapest version. With the official power supply about €50 at an electronics shop. More memory isn't needed.

Why without a Raspberry Pi? Pi prices go up and down a lot. By selling only the kit our price stays low and fixed, and you buy the Pi wherever it's cheapest at the time.

Safe and private

Your home, your data

ComfortWatt controls the heating in your home. That's why it was built from the start to be safe – and to let as little as possible leave your home.

Works at home, on your own network

Your hub controls your devices locally and isn't open to the internet. Using your solar surplus keeps working when the internet is down.

Your data stays with you

Meter readings, use and savings are kept on your own hub. The keys of your Smart Life devices are never sent to us.

Safe control from anywhere

With Complete you control your hub through your account, over an encrypted connection your hub sets up itself. Changing Wi-Fi, adding devices or changing your password can only be done at home.

Only genuine updates

Your hub only installs software that we have digitally signed. A forged or damaged update is refused.

Well-protected login

We only store passwords encrypted. After a few wrong attempts the door closes for a while. When you change your password, you're logged out everywhere else and get an e-mail.

Safe payments

You pay through Mollie with iDEAL, Bancontact, card or PayPal. Your bank details never reach us.

Frequently asked questions

Which heaters work with it?

Electric heaters and aircons you control with the Smart Life or Tuya Smart app, and aircons or heaters with an ordinary remote via a Tuya IR blaster. Panel heaters with fixed power settings and inverter aircons work best. Not sure? Send us the brand and model.

Do I need solar panels?

No. Without panels, ComfortWatt only heats when power is cheap; for that you need a dynamic energy contract.

What if I switch a heater on myself?

ComfortWatt notices and leaves that heater alone for two hours. You stay in charge.

Can the house get too warm?

No. You set a maximum temperature per room, and ComfortWatt also sets the heater's own thermostat to that value.

What happens if I cancel my subscription?

Your heaters keep working as they always did. ComfortWatt stops controlling them until you subscribe again.

Why is there no Raspberry Pi in the kit?

Raspberry Pi prices go up and down a lot, and they're not always easy to get. If we shipped the Pi ourselves, we'd have to charge a generous margin to cover that. So we sell only the kit: the price stays low and fixed, you buy the Pi wherever it's cheapest at the time, and you can use a Pi you already have. A Raspberry Pi 4 with 1 GB is plenty; the kit turns it into a ComfortWatt hub in minutes.

Do I need Wi-Fi or a cable?

Either works. Without a cable, the hub opens its own setup network the first time it starts; there you pick your home Wi-Fi with your phone. A network cable to your router works straight away and is the most stable.

My aircon only has a remote. Does that work?

Yes, with a Tuya / Smart Life IR blaster (Wi-Fi, mains or USB powered). You set the remote to the setting ComfortWatt should use, for example cooling at 24 °C, and let the blaster learn that button. Infrared only works one way: ComfortWatt doesn't see it when you use the remote yourself.

What changes when net metering ends?

Until the end of 2026 you can offset exported power against power you buy. From 1 January 2027 that stops: you only get a low feed-in compensation and often pay export fees. Using your solar power yourself – in your heater, aircon or battery – then becomes worth much more. That's exactly what ComfortWatt does.

I make or sell smart devices. Can ComfortWatt support them?

Gladly. We keep adding heaters, aircons, heat pumps, boilers, home batteries and smart switches that work with ComfortWatt. If your product can be controlled locally over Wi-Fi or the network, we can often add it. Send us the brand and model, and a test unit if you can.
